Another shift, and then a head poked up from behind an arm. A green arm. Sideswipe blinked. The head was green too. And lacked a nasal structure. Sideswipe was not a leading authority on earthlings like 'Bee or Hound, but this didn't seem right to him. Did humans even come in green?

At one point in the fic, Chris paints a temporary tattoo on JC and it's one of the hottest things I've ever read. I want to see JC painted like this all the time. I seem to be prefacing every post with an apology, but my home 'net was out yesterday, so hopefully no-one will mind too much that my crack van collision rec is a day late. Fandom: DC COMICS/Buffy the Vampire Slayer Pairing: none Length: 1796 Author on LJ: ladyoneillAuthor Website: www.meandering-muse.net Why this must be read:If you're a Roy Harper fan, you've got to see how he deals with this wisecracking girl that fell out of a portal and promptly saved his life--and since when does he need saving, anyway? If you're a fan of Buffy, you've got to see how she deals with being dropped into the middle of the DCU, all quick quips and curiosity and great one-liners as she deals with one of the heroes in her own, inimitable fashion. Ladyoneill has been writing for both fandoms for forever, and this was the fic that I first thought of months ago when I volunteered to drive the 'van. She uses the Buffyverse style and pacing and flow elegantly and deftly to do a fic that is pretty much the antithesis of the standard 'two divergent heroes meet and promptly mistake each other for the bad guys' that is such a usual staple of the genre, which is yet another reason it really had to be read, while still being very much true to the DCU. Actually, painfully awkward. Simon is awkward and wants to deny it after he realizes that he has feelings for the Captain. I love that it just doesn't smoothly fall into place. It also has a confident, semi-stalkery Mal. River is picking up on Simon's broadcasting, or messing around in his head, either way... funny, leading to more awkwardness for Simon. And another reason to read this fic? Jayne disemboweling kiwi fruit.

Takes place prior to the culling of Sateda. Why this must be read: From what I understand this started out as comment porn and the hot yet simple idea that Dean is in/from Sateda, Ronon’s home world. It then developed into the Sateda!Dean verse. First off, you have the visual prettiness of Ronon Dex and Dean Winchester from Supernatural—take a moment… now tell me that’s not nice? Second, the interaction between the characters sizzles. Though Dean is Sateda, he is still 100% Dean Winchester. The first piece starts off from Ronon’s pov. He looks at Dean as a young, innocent, inexperienced kid and is undecided if Dean has what it takes to be a soldier/warrior for Sateda. The reader quickly discovers that this a reflection of Ronon himself . And lets not forget this is PoRn, and baby is it hot!! Porn at its best, but it's also what I consider character porn. In addition to the porn, you’re also treated to a rich analysis of the layers of each character. Of Ronon recognizing that there’s more to Dean, pieces that Ronon sees in himself, and ultimately a reflection of the young warrior in each of them, and of Sateda. { Note: it does start out with both underage Dean 15, Ronon 17} And did I mention hot!?! Why this must be read: My two favorite fandoms are Starsky & Hutch and their British counterpart, The Professionals. Imagine how thrilled I was when Rebelcat, one of the best writers in either fandom, decided to combine the two. The story kicks off in Bay City when something unexpected turns up in the belly of a shark. Starsky & Hutch are on the case, and and it doesn't take long before they find their way to smack dab in the middle of BC's thriving pornography industry. Soon, Starsky has a budding new acting career and Hutch is pretending to be his lover, just so the two of them can stick together on set. At the same time, Bodie & Doyle (aka The Pros) are undercover as hired muscle on their side of the pond. Their boss has a taste for kinky sex and drugs, with possible connections to a lot more. Business lures the crimelord to Starsky & Hutch's turf. Bodie & Doyle tag along. It's like universes colliding. There is sex a plenty here and Hutch posing as Starsky's SO, yet this isn't a slash story. It's not het either, as all the NC-17 is tied to the case the guys are trying to solve. What's probably most interesting about this story is being able to see the way the two fictional crime fighting pairs compare and contrast. Despite The Pros supposedly being the British answer to S&H, in reality they are a very, very different set of characters inhabiting a much darker world. That comes across here. How Jensen fights against his love for Jared (he's afraid of what being gay will mean to his career), and how he comes to the conclusion that it doesn't matter hit me as realistic and in-character. Why this must be read: This story starts with the torture of Clark and Lex, but the main focus is the aftermath of the torture. In the first part of the story (there are 4 parts) she broke me right along with Clark and Lex. Her writing and the story itself were so powerful that passages such as the one below tore me apart emotionally: “Is he a friend, or someone who hurts me, Lex?” Clark asked, pausing between bites to look at the dark haired man. “That’s Bruce,” Lex said, “He’s a very good friend. He saved my life many times before I met you. He’s protecting us from the people who hurt you, Clark. Bruce is good. You can trust Bruce and Alfred.” “Oh, OK,” Clark said, nodding. He went back to the food. Pretty soon it was all gone. Clark wiped his mouth the way Mom taught him, and smiled at Alfred when he took the tray. Lex was saying something to Bruce, Clark’s new friend, but Clark’s mind had drifted away again, thinking about Mom’s cooking so he wouldn’t think about the bad things crowding at the back of his mind.
Bruce is integral to the recovery of both Clark and Lex and the rest of the story is spent trying to repair the damage done to them, but especially Clark. All three help and support each of the others and their different needs, personalities, and strengths help to balance each other and their growing relationship. Be prepared for a multitude of emotions as it is a powerful and intense story; while the first part had me incoherent with sorrow the last part had me laughing and in between was amazement, disbelief, lust, relief, satisfaction, and so many more. Heh. The fun of this one is that Justin - man of the world, jaded overcool popstar - does not know Gabe Saporta like we know Gabe Saporta. Justin has to angle his head up to look at the guy. He’s really fucking tall and skinny and, while Justin can’t see the guy’s face from under the hat he’s wearing (under a hoodie, which, okay?) he’s sure he doesn’t recognize him.
“Hey,” Justin replies warily, and tries to remember where his security is supposed to be. Well, technically it’s Jessica’s security, since she’d insisted they wouldn’t need more than one guy, but still.
The guy says, "So, I'm Gabe. Friend of Pete's.”
Which, okay, that’s cool. Makes the guy less likely to be a crazed fan, anyway. Justin nods. “Cool, hey.” Yeah, I'm not sure "crazed fan" is quite how you'd describe it. But it's deeply entertaining, and then Gabe pulls off his pants, shoves his fingers into Justin's mouth, and it's suddenly a whole lot less funny and a whole lot more hot. I have a particular soft spot for this Doctor Who/NCIS crossover as I always thought it was a shame the 8th Doctor didn’t get his series. One film of him just wasn't enough. The thought of Abby as a companion is pretty good too, she would give him a run for his money and to my mind would have fitted in very nicely in the 90s with the 8th Doc. This story sees the pair meeting for the first time and there is a sequel.

OK it's Crack Van Collision Day - and I have a confession to make. *takes deep breath* I'm not a big crossover fan. *cowers and shields soft parts from incipient blows from outraged fans* There. I've said it. IMO it isn't easy to sustain the characteristic attributes of more than one fandom simultaneously. One of them can so easily be diminished in stature by becoming a mere plot device to service the other. The result can then feel unbalanced. Alternatively the need to lay equal emphasis on more than one universe can become unwieldy, with pairings/canons vying with each other for attention. It must be said, however, that some authors are such stars that they never fall into these traps and produce stunning fanfic that melds together several fandoms seamlessly. I'll leave you to judge which category this falls into... Oh BTW, you probably need to be particularly warm and fluffy (whatever substance you use to achieve this feeling) before embarking on this one - and have the Kleenex handy... The Reality Affair | | |

Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (NEW) Pairing: Athena/Helo (multi-character focus) Length: 20k+ Author on LJ: sabaceanbabe Author Website: archived here Why this must be read: This is an AU (most was written prior to season three) version of the liberation of New Caprica, but it's so much more than that. It's also a story of how the Cylon prisoner Sharon became Athena, of love, friendship, war... I could go on. The reconciliation between Sharon and Helo after the (supposed) loss of their daughter provides a unifying theme, but not to the exclusion of all else. They both have major internal and external struggles to contend with, and other characters - including my personal weakness Kara Thrace - have their roles to play. There are also some riveting action scenes of both the ground and Viper (okay, Raptor) variety. The focus on identity issues and character relationships as well as action/adventure, so hard to accomplish in a 42-minute episode of television, makes this just as satisfying in its own way as the canon version.
